DUBLIN FIRE BRIGADE has dealt with over 500 calls today, as units across the city contend with a large number of blazes as a result of Halloween.

On what is always one of the busiest days of the year for the force, fire officers have been dealing with bonfires as well as other Halloween-related and non-Halloween-related incidents.

From midnight to 7.30pm, DFB said it received 561 calls of which 194 were for fires in Dublin and 279 were for an ambulance call.

“Happily, so far this Halloween night, we have had no reports of any firework or bonfire related injuries,” DFB tweeted.

Units from North Strand fire station said they “encountered anti-social behaviour” as they dealt with two cars on fire in Darndale off the R139.

At the entrance to an estate in Fortunestown DFB dealt with two flaming cars and a downed lamp post.

Units from Kilbarrack were called earlier this evening after a car was driven onto a bonfire in Coolock. Separately in West Dublin, DFB extinguished a van set alight in a driveway.

Earlier, DFB was called out to deal with a bonfire which was acting as a barricade across a Dublin road.

Units from Dolphin’s Barn were dispatched and dealt with the makeshift bonfire which had been erected in the Drimnagh area.

Firefighters also responded to reports of two derelict homes on fire in Tallaght and Cherry Orchard.

bonnfire DFB DFB

DFB has been busy in the run up to Halloween. As of midnight yesterday, they had responded to over 45 dangerous bonfires.

They expect that number to significantly increase this evening.

DFB as well as Dublin City Council are urging people to stay away from unsecured bonfires as they are dangerous.

Instead, they want people to attend one of the many official events being hosted by the council.
